The 2018 Holman Prize
I am delighted to announce that I have been awarded this prestigious international prize for blind adventurers.
Launched in 2017 by the San Francisco LightHouse For The Blind to ‘support the emerging adventurousness and can-do spirit of blind and low vision people worldwide…the Prize provides financial backing for three individuals to explore the world and push their limits…to savor the richness of a world that is so often thought of as inaccessible to the blind.’
This year the organisers received entries from every continent on Earth (except Antarctica!) and had to whittle them down to three winners.
My project – Extreme Blind Triathlon – was one of those chosen.
And though it’s just under a year until I attempt this extreme sports triple challenge, it’s never to early to start training…
So here are some photos of me reacquainting myself with the joys of climbing on sandstone last weekend at Fontainebleu in France:
Like me, this website is about to get a lot more active, so please follow me and help spread the word. The Holman Prize is an annual award and it would be great to see it attract even more blind ambition in years to come.
